Mozambique - Beach and Safari Tours
Mozambique is a costal country in the south eastern part of Africa and is a top holiday destination for young and old. Known for its spectacular beaches, pristine waters and fabulous climate, Mozambique not only offers stunning beach holidays, it also offers safari tours and travel to the unspoilt nature reserves in the country.
Quirimbas Archipelago is located in the northern parts of Mozambique, roughly 2500 kilometres from the capital, Maputo. It consists of a number of islands - all with pristine, untouched beaches. In order to preserve the natural beauty of these islands, many of them form part of the Quirimbas National Park - a protected area within Mozambique.
These islands boast a number of accommodation options and small beach lodges. The developments on the islands are rather new which makes them less explored than the islands that make up the Bazaruto Archipello further south in Mozambique. Some of the islands one can expect to discover in the Quirimbas Archipelago include the Metamo Island, Ibs Island, Quilálea Island and the Medjumbe Island amongst others.
The Medjumbe Island is one of the most popular islands in this Archipello, and is ideal for a quiet and relaxing beach experience during an African vacation. The island offers luxury accommodation in a secluded setting - perfect to relax and unwind. This also makes the island perfect for an African honeymoon, when only the best will do! Divers will be delighted with the many coral reefs and beautiful tropical fish one can explore for an exceptional sea safari experience.
The Niassa National Game Reserve is situated in northern Mozambique. This spectacular reserve is twice as large as the Kruger National Park and covers a magnificent 42 000 square kilometres. The Game Reserve offers traditional African safari tour experiences to visitors.
Untouched areas within the reserve mean that visitors are able to experience the true beauty of the African landscape during a safari holiday to Mozambique as it is filled with numerous indigenous species. The reserve consists mainly of woodland areas and contains beautiful inselbergs or granite mountains.
Whilst enjoying your Africa safari in the Niassa Reserve, you can expect to see wild dogs, leopards, elephants, lions and sables to name a few. The reserve is home to a number of endemic species which will be a real treat to see during your safari travels. These are the Niassa Wildebeest, Bohm's Zebra, Johnston's Impala and the Mecula Girdles Lizard.
There are over 400 species of birds in the reserve - a bird lover's paradise! Numerous of the bird species found in the reserve are on the endangered species list, making a trip to the Niassa National Game Reserve well worthwhile. The reserve is also home to a number of families who live a subsistence lifestyle within the reserve.
The Bazaruto Archipello is located towards the south of Mozambique and is also a protected area. It comprises of the following islands: the Bazaruto, Bangue, Magaruque, Santa Carolina and the Benguerra Island.
The picturesque settings of the Benguerra Islands in Mozambique are superb for a special or romantic getaway; there is no wonder why this area of Mozambique is such a popular African honeymoon destination. The islands have a number of luxury lodges where one can simply relax and unwind during your holiday. Here one can enjoy a host of outdoor activities such as horseback safaris, wind surfing, water skiing, sailing, fishing and more.
